Set amongst vast sand dunes overlooking three huge beaches is County Sligo Golf Club, better known as Rosses Point. It is one of Ireland’s greatest links courses and a great test of golf. Three extended beaches beneath the cliffs keep the Atlantic at bay to the west of the course, while towering Belbulben Mountain competes with the ocean for scenic splendor on the land side. The prevailing wind increases the challenge, particularly as many of the tees and greens are elevated. Golf was first played at Rosses Point in 1894 and it has since hosted most of Ireland’s major championships including the West of Ireland Amateur Open Championship since 1923.
